They say we are extremists!
Since 2024, the anarchist network has been mentioned in the annual report of the German domestic intelligence service. The so-called Office for the Protection of the Constitution has since designated the AND as “confirmed left-wing extremist,” thereby declaring us a threat to Germany’s security. Our new status as “extremists” allows the German state to monitor us, spy on us, observe our homes, eavesdrop on us, and infiltrate our immediate surroundings—all under the pretext of ensuring security. The same state that considers us a relevant security problem deports people, murders in German police stations, makes deals with dictators, and continues to supply weapons to authoritarian regimes.
So while we are marked as a threat, the real danger lies elsewhere.
Our living space is becoming unaffordable, our neighborhoods increasingly anonymous, social cuts are leading to lower wages and more competition in the workplace, and at the end of the month, we barely have enough money to live on. Summers are getting longer and hotter and are already a real danger, especially for the sick and elderly. Rising temperatures are not only a problem for us humans, but for a large proportion of all living beings. One of the world’s largest CO2 emitters is the animal industry. Animals are permanently and universally oppressed by humans: through mass killing for food, through the destruction of natural habitats in the name of capital, and through exploitation for experimental purposes. We need a radical rethinking of our social relationship between humans and animals and a joint struggle for a good life for all.
Our identity and our sexual self-determination are under threat. From “conservative ideas” of right-wing parties that want to dictate how we should live and how many children we should have. Deportations to war zones take place almost daily. What caused outrage a few years ago is now a footnote in the daily news. All these dangers stem from an authoritarian shift that has been looming for years and is becoming increasingly real.
But what actually makes us safe?!
This state does not make us safe, quite the contrary! – so it’s up to us! During this year’s A-Days, we want to address this question and develop strategies together, learn from each other, and exchange ideas: What really makes us safe? How can we preserve and protect our communities in the long term? What can we learn from struggles in other parts of the world? Through our program of workshops, lectures, films, art, and culture, as well as delicious food and plenty of time for exchange, we want to strengthen ourselves together for a world in which survival requires more and more strength.
Our greatest strength lies in our community, in our solidarity. So let’s use these A-Days again to get in touch with each other, to network, and to make new friends. Because one thing is certain: in order to defend ourselves against authoritarian politics and attacks on our ideas, we need secure and trusting relationships as the basis for a stable community.
Whether you are reading about anarchism for the first time or have been regularly attending the A-Days events in Dresden since 2016, you are warmly invited!
